Ebola NCDC clears 2 suspected cases in Adamawa

Ebola Scare: NCDC 2 Suspected Cases in Adamawa After Negative Tests

Following negative laboratory test results, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has ruled out Ebola virus disease in two suspected cases detected in Yola, Adamawa State.

The agency’s initial disclosure of two suspected Ebola cases in Nigeria’s northeastern region—without initially naming the specific states—had heightened public health concerns.

NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris confirmed in a Saturday night statement that both individuals tested negative across two rounds of laboratory testing, while identifying Adamawa as the state where health officials recorded the suspected cases.

Idris stated that health authorities alerted the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of October 30 after two individuals exhibited Ebola-like symptoms.

He clarified that officials immediately placed both individuals in isolation, implemented public health protocols, and collected samples for laboratory analysis, noting that two rounds of testing returned negative results for Ebola virus disease.

The NCDC chief commended the Adamawa State Health Commissioner and his team for their rapid response, assuring that the agency will continue providing technical support to strengthen the state’s emergency response capabilities.

Idris emphasized that Adamawa State has no laboratory-confirmed Ebola cases, maintaining that Nigeria’s sole confirmed case remains the initial index case detected in the Federal Capital Territory.

While the NCDC did not disclose the location of the second northeastern state referenced in its previous alert, the latest laboratory results effectively clear the two suspected cases in Adamawa.
