The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has voiced concern over reports that more than 30 villages in Danchadi District of Bodinga Local Government Area have been abandoned following persistent bandit attacks.
Dan’iya, popularly known as Walin Sokoto, described the development as both a security and humanitarian crisis that demands immediate intervention from the Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government.
In a statement released through his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC candidate said repeated attacks by bandits, including killings, kidnappings and the destruction of property, have forced many residents to flee their communities.
According to him, the reported displacement of entire villages reflects the worsening security situation and underscores the need for more effective measures to safeguard lives and property.
Dan’iya said it was disturbing that many families had been forced to abandon their homes and continue to live in fear, stressing that protecting citizens remains the government’s primary constitutional responsibility.
He noted that repeated appeals by residents, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for improved security have yet to produce meaningful results in many of the affected communities.
The ADC candidate urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance collaboration among security agencies, and work more closely with local communities and traditional institutions to address the growing insecurity.
He maintained that the government must respond with greater urgency, warning that the continued spread of violence to more communities is unacceptable and requires coordinated, practical solutions capable of restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence.
Dan’iya also cautioned that if the situation persists, it could further disrupt farming, trade, education and other economic activities that sustain rural communities.
He called for intensified security operations in affected areas, improved logistical support for security personnel, and increased humanitarian assistance for displaced residents.
According to him, Sokoto State possesses enormous potential for development, but persistent insecurity continues to hinder progress. He therefore urged the government to reclaim communities occupied by criminal elements and create an environment where residents can live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
Dan’iya further appealed to members of the public to support ongoing efforts by providing credible and timely information to security agencies to aid the restoration of peace across the state.
