The General Court Martial handling the trial of military officers accused of planning a coup plot against Tinubu, to overthrow his administration has postponed its ruling.
The ruling—marking the fourth postponement in the proceedings—was rescheduled from Wednesday, September 30, 2026, to Monday, October 5, 2026.
The military announced the adjustment via a notice issued to court members and participating parties, confirming that the reconvened session will commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Scorpion Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja.
“The GCM sitting earlier adjourned to Wednesday, 30 September, 2026, has now been postponed to Monday, 5 October, 2026,” the notice stated.
The notice was signed by Liaison Officer Major M.U. Ardo.No official reason was provided for the delay. However, the military apologised for any inconvenience the change may have caused.
The latest development marks the fourth time the court has postponed its ruling.
The ruling is expected to determine whether the prosecution can use statements allegedly obtained from some of the accused officers as evidence in the ongoing trial.
The court had to conduct a trial-within-a-trial after defence lawyers challenged the circumstances under which the officers made the statements.
During the proceedings, the defence lawyers alleged that officials of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) forced some of the officers to make or reproduce statements containing information they disputed.

In January of 2026, the Defence Headquarters completed its probe into sixteen military officers detained in October 2025 over alleged misconduct and violations of service rules, including accusations of attempting to destabilise the Federal Government.
In a statement released on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the investigation report has been submitted to the appropriate authorities in accordance with military regulations.
Following this, the military disclosed a full list of the officers involved in the coup plot against Tinubu. He further added that most of the officers are drawn from the Infantry, Signals, and Ordnance Corps of the Armed Forces.
