Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has urged prominent South-East political and traditional leaders to act decisively in order to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, Sowore declared that he was prepared to spearhead a lawful and nonviolent march to the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, calling on South-East governors, legislators, traditional leaders, and religious leaders to go beyond “empty rhetoric” and demonstrate genuine dedication to Kanu’s cause.
“I will set aside my differences with some politicians for one cause,” Sowore wrote.
“I challenge every politician or person of good conscience from the South-East who says they want Nnamdi Kanu released to stop the rhetoric. Time for action is NOW. Let’s march to the Aso Rock Villa.”
Among those mentioned by the #RevolutionNow convener to physically participate in the march. were, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
“No more empty noise,” he said. “Let Governor Soludo (@CCSoludo), Senator Abaribe (@SenatorAbaribe), Alex Otti (@alexottiofr), Peter Obi (@PeterObi), and all others who claim to care step up and join us in person.”

The planned march, according to Sowore, will be peaceful and lawful, with an emphasis on calling for justice and a stop to what he called the IPOB leader’s “persecution.”
“We go together peacefully, legally, and visibly to demand justice and an end to MNK’s persecution. #FreeNnamdiKanuNow,” he added.
In response to Sowore’s request, Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, stated that he was prepared to participate in the nonviolent protest.
