Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has inaugurated a 14-member State Advisory Committee on State Police aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.

The development follows a call by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms to improve effective policing across the country.
The committee, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Habila Joshak, is expected to examine the concept of State Police within Nigeria’s federal system and submit recommendations to guide national policy discussions.
“The committee’s work will help guide Plateau State in developing a pragmatic and workable framework that aligns with constitutional provisions, national security priorities, and the peculiar security realities of the state” Mutfwang said.

The committee comprises security experts, scholars, and public policy practitioners, including Brig. Gen. Gakji Shipi (Rtd), AIG Bashir Makama (Rtd), and Prof. Jamila Nasir.
Their tasks include examining constitutional and legal frameworks, reviewing national policy proposals, and assessing security challenges facing Plateau State.
DIG Habila Joshak (Rtd) assured the committee will discharge its mandate diligently, saying, “We appreciate the Governor’s confidence in us and will work in the interest of peace, security, and sustainable development in Plateau State”.
