Party leaders, elected officials, and prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yagba Federal Constituency have expressed strong support for Leke Abejide’s emergence as the party’s candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
They said his victory at the APC primary reflects the genuine choice of APC members across Yagba Federal Constituency.
The leaders, operating under the Leke Abejide Support Group (LASG), dismissed criticisms of the outcome, describing them as expressions of political disappointment and attempts to undermine a democratic process that was freely conducted by party members.
In a joint statement, they insisted that Abejide’s candidacy was not imposed or predetermined but secured through a transparent primary election.
The statement was signed by several key political figures, including the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo; the Chairmen of Yagba West, Yagba East, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas; as well as other APC chieftains and grassroots mobilizers across the constituency.
They maintained that those challenging the outcome had supported other aspirants during the primary but were unsuccessful at the polls.
According to them, the result of the election clearly reflected the preference of APC members across the 34 wards in the constituency.
The group also faulted claims based on zoning and rotational arrangements, arguing that such political understandings cannot override constitutional provisions or the right of eligible candidates to contest elections.
They stressed that democracy is about allowing voters to freely choose their representatives, not restricting candidates based on origin or political arrangement.
The leaders further highlighted Abejide’s achievements in office, including scholarship schemes for students, empowerment programmes for women and youths, and infrastructural projects across various communities. They also cited recent community development grants distributed to multiple areas for local projects.
They argued that Abejide’s performance and accessibility have earned him broad support across the constituency, with constituents now prioritising results and effective representation over political sentiment.
The group urged party members and the public to accept the outcome of the primaries, insisting that the process was fair and conclusive.
They also maintained that no political pressure or opposition can overturn what they described as a clear democratic mandate from APC members.
“The party members have spoken. The people have spoken,” they said, adding that the decision of the electorate should be respected.
