The Benue State Police Command has stepped up security operations after a deadly attack on farmers in Apa Local Government Area, where six bodies have so far been recovered.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, the command disclosed that the attack occurred in the early hours of March 13, 2026. Suspected armed herders reportedly invaded cashew farms in the communities of Asaba, Ojantele, and Okpette while farmers were tending to their plantations.
According to the police, a joint security team comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, military operatives, and local youths swiftly moved into nearby forests to begin search and rescue operations aimed at locating victims and tracking the attackers.
The statement noted that six bodies were recovered during the initial operation, while security agencies have continued efforts to secure the affected communities and search for other individuals who may still be missing.
The Benue Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, assured residents that additional security personnel have been deployed to strengthen ongoing operations and intensify the manhunt for those behind the killings.

Security patrols have also been reinforced across the affected communities and other parts of the state to prevent further violence and reassure residents of the commitment of security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
The Benue police further urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could support the ongoing operations.
