Maiduguri: Army raises alarm, says Boko Haram terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers

The Nigerian Army has raised alarm following the explosions in Maiduguri, claiming that more Boko Haram suicide bombers may have been deployed and lurking in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The Borno State Police Command reports that the explosions resulted in 23 fatalities and 108 injuries.

The bombs, which detonated on Monday at around 7:24 p.m., hit the Post Office overpass, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and a significant market.

In a statement signed by Nahum Daso, its spokesperson, the police had said “preliminary investigation reveals that the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers”.

Corroborating these claims, the army said suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers masterminded the attacks.

“The explosions were carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorist suicide bombers who detonated improvised explosive devices at three different locations within the city,” Sani Uba, spokesperson of the army’s Operation HADIN KAI, said in a statement.

“The cowardly attacks targeted crowded public areas in an attempt by the terrorists to inflict mass casualties and create panic within the metropolis.

“Preliminary information further indicates that the terrorists may have deployed multiple suicide bombers into Maiduguri with the intention of carrying out coordinated suicide bombings at crowded locations.”

Additionally, he added that security forces have intensified surveillance, patrols, and counter-IED measures across the metropolis to track down any remaining suspects.
