The Oyo State Police Command has responded to a viral video circulating online in which a man allegedly confessed to multiple killings.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said an investigation has been launched to verify the claims and identify those involved.
According to the police, the individual in the video, identified as Shawama, was seen alongside others claiming responsibility for the killing of 32 people.
However, the command noted that there is no record of such a person having been arrested by its operatives.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point,” the statement said.

The police added that investigations have been initiated to verify the claims and establish the authenticity of the video.
According to the statement, the probe is being carried out using digital tools to track those involved.
“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome,” the command stated.
The police also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspect and his accomplices.
“The Command appeals to anyone with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the individual to come forward,” it added.
The Police command assured residents that updates on the investigation would be made available as progress is recorded.
