The affected officials are Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda LGA and Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum LGA in Zamfara.
The suspension followed a report presented by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during Wednesday’s plenary session. The report was delivered by Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who also serves as the committee’s vice chairman.
According to the House spokesperson, Bello Kurya, lawmakers unanimously approved the committee’s recommendation after deliberations presided over by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki.
Kurya explained that the two chairmen were suspended for failing to honor invitations from the committee to account for the expenditure of funds allocated to their councils. He described their refusal to appear before the committee as a serious breach of legislative protocol.

The suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the financial activities of the state’s 14 local government councils for the 2025 fiscal year. The Assembly has instructed the affected chairmen to hand over to their vice chairmen without delay.
Kurya added that the disciplinary action was prompted by findings of “disrespect to the legislative institution,” as well as a lack of transparency and accountability. He noted that the Assembly has communicated its resolutions to the executive arm for implementation, reaffirming its commitment to prudent management of public resources and good governance in Zamfara State.
