Sources say key party figures, including Barrister Ahmad El-Marzuq, have publicly opposed any attempt to bypass internal consultations in the candidate selection process.

In a video circulating online, El-Marzuq was seen warning party leaders against endorsing or imposing candidates without proper consultation, regardless of their influence or position.

He added that stakeholders may be willing to support aspirants, but only where there is genuine consultation and mutual agreement among party members.

“They should not allow themselves to be manipulated into forcing any candidate on the people,” he said in the clip. “But if there is dialogue and respect, concessions can be made.”

“We will not accept imposed candidates,” El-Marzuq was quoted as saying, reflecting a growing sentiment among party members who are insisting on due process and consensus-building.

The development is being linked by some observers to the reported legislative ambition of Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Yusuf Buhari is said to be interested in contesting for the House of Representatives seat representing Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

Political analysts say the unfolding situation signals a potentially contentious path towards candidate selection within the APC in the constituency, with strong indications that internal disagreements may intensify before a final decision is reached.

The Daura/Mai’adua seat, a politically significant constituency in Katsina State, is expected to attract heightened attention in the coming months as party members navigate competing interests and calls for transparency.
