Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has opened up about how her 2024 meeting with billionaire music icon Rihanna in Barbados positively transformed her confidence and self-image.
In a recent interview with W Magazine, the 23-year-old revealed that she was dealing with low self-esteem at the time. However, she shared that Rihanna’s warm and uplifting personality helped her rediscover her sense of self.
Starr added that one of her most memorable moments was sitting with Rihanna while they watched her music videos together. She described how surreal it felt to have Rihanna point out her favorite scenes, calling the experience both affirming and unforgettable.
“At that time I was struggling with my self-image and confidence, so that moment meant everything.”
She added that she felt “God had sent” Rihanna to her,” describing their first meeting as “one of the most amazing feelings.”
Ayra Starr has been very vocal about her admiration for Rihanna. She has repeatedly mentioned her as her biggest inspiration and role model.
