Former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar has cautioned President Bola Tinubu for stating that rising insecurity in parts of the country would not force him out of office.

Recall that on Wednesday, Tinubu reaffirmed his decision to run for a second term against all odds.

He also vowed that persons attempting to use the worsening security crisis to prevent his re-election have another thing coming.

He said, “You are playing into the hands of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” Tinubu had said.

“I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term.”

‘THE PEOPLE WILL DECIDE’

Abubakar described Tinubu’s comments as disturbing, in a statement released on Wednesday via his senior special assistant on public relations, Phrank Shaibu.

He further stated that accountability and practical action, not disobedience, should characterise governance.

According to Abubakar, the Tinubu administration has not fulfilled its fundamental responsibility of safeguarding people and property.

He said, “It is not political opponents who will judge this administration; it is the blood of innocent Nigerians being shed daily across our land. That blood cries out louder than any declaration of political resolve.”

According to the former vice president, over 10,000 people have died since Tinubu took power, with other estimates pointing to over 18,000 deaths in just two years as a result of ongoing violence across the country.

Additionally, he said that Tinubu’s remarks trivialise the suffering of impacted families and attacked the president for allegedly characterising public outcry as political opportunism.

INADEQUATE EFFORT

The former vice president claimed that since Tinubu took power, more than 10,000 people had died, with some estimates indicating that the country’s ongoing violence has killed nearly 18,000 people in just two years.

He said that Tinubu’s remarks trivialise the suffering of impacted families, criticising the president for allegedly characterising public outcry as political opportunism.

Abubakar further described the response of the federal government to the recent attack in Ekiti state, where gunmen killed a pastor and abducted worshippers, as inadequate.

Consequently, he warned the federal government to review its security strategy, insisting that protecting lives must remain the core measure of governance.
