The APC has declared Bola Tinubu duly cleared under its constitution and internal procedures, exempting him from screening ahead of the 2027 primary.

The National Working Committee reached the decision at its 188th meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

The APC said in a statement by Felix Morka, its National Publicity Secretary, that the NWC made the decision under Article 13.4(xiii) and (xiv) of the party constitution, which authorises it to organise and supervise primaries and, where necessary, grant waivers in the party’s best interest.

The statement read, “The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, at its 188th meeting held today, May 6, 2026, resolved to waive, and has waived, screening requirements for His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and deemed him duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections.

“This decision was made pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the Constitution of the APC to organise and supervise the party’s primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers in the best interest of the party.

The NWC further said the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), National Assembly leadership and members, and other party organs overwhelmingly endorsed President Tinubu at the APC National Summit on May 22, 2025, and at other key statutory meetings of the party.

It also added that requiring the president to appear before a screening committee would be unnecessary, given that he is the party leader, incumbent president, and had already undergone screening ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.

BACKSTORY…

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has vowed that he will run for a second term, insisting that rising insecurity in parts of the country will not force him out of office.

Tinubu made his bold stance while hosting Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other Plateau State stakeholders.

Mr president also claimed that anyone trying to use the nation’s security issues against his government was supporting the goals of hostile groups and his political rivals.
