The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have submitted their membership registers ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
This was made known in a statement released on Friday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
According to INEC, the political parties complied with the directive following an extension granted after concerns were raised about the initial deadline during a stakeholders’ meeting held on March 24, 2026.
The Commission explained that the original deadline of April 21, 2026, was extended to May 10, 2026, in accordance with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable for party primaries.
INEC revealed that all 22 parties submitted their membership registers by May 8, 2026, two days before the revised deadline.
The electoral body also noted that political parties are allowed to conduct their primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026, while membership registers must be submitted at least 21 days before the date of their primaries.
INEC added that the submitted registers will now undergo verification as part of efforts to ensure credible, free, fair, and inclusive elections in 2027.
