Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has stated that Nigeria did not collapse during his time in office.
He made the remark on Tuesday in Abuja at the launch of his 859-page autobiography, My Life of Duty and Allegiance, titled “No Going Back.”
Gowon said that many of the country’s current challenges are being worsened by overly complex approaches to solving relatively simple problems, which he believes often generate unnecessary tension across the nation.

He expressed concern that Nigerians tend to overcomplicate straightforward issues by introducing complicated and ambiguous solutions that deepen national instability.
According to him, his book is intended to address such misconceptions and correct public narratives about his time in leadership.
He said, “On my watch as Head of State, the country did not fall. And I am confident that, despite all its challenges, the nation still will not fall.”
Gowon added that he hopes the autobiography will help fill gaps in historical understanding and provide clarity on key national events during his tenure.
