Nigerian singer Davido has revealed plans to regain ownership of his music masters from his international record label, Sony Music, before retiring from music.
Speaking on The Long Form podcast, the singer stressed that ownership remains one of the most important aspects of the music industry.
Davido explained that his goal is to eventually buy back his masters and ensure that his music continues to generate royalties for his children even after he steps away from the industry.
“I have a good music contract, but the most important thing is ownership. I plan to get my masters back from Sony soon. That way, I can assign my songs to my kids so they can keep earning from them even after I retire,” he said.
Davido also noted that the business side of music should be taken as seriously as the creative aspect.
