The 2027 governorship candidate under the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Sunday Garba Biggs, has criticised Governor Caleb Mutfwang over what he described as poor performance after three years in office.
Biggs, a retired permanent secretary in the state civil service, made the remarks while responding to the governor’s third-year anniversary celebration on Sunday. He said Mutfwang had not delivered the level of leadership expected by the people of the state and, in his view, does not merit a second term in 2027.
In a statement released by his media team, Biggs—who hails from the same Mangu Local Government Area as the governor—said his shared background would not prevent him from speaking openly about what he considers shortcomings in governance.
He argued that Plateau State requires stronger leadership capable of effectively addressing insecurity, economic hardship, and developmental challenges.
Biggs noted that residents had high hopes when Mutfwang was elected, describing his emergence as a collective effort across ethnic and religious lines, but said current realities suggest widespread dissatisfaction with the administration’s performance.

“The people of Plateau State were happy when he was elected governor,” he said.
“Yes, he is my kinsman, but what exactly is his performance in office? From what we see on the ground, people are not satisfied with his leadership.
“Plateau is bigger than any individual. Leadership is about responsibility, not sentiment or personal ties,” he added.
He further stated that no public office holder should remain in power without delivering results, regardless of origin or political affiliation.
Biggs also expressed disappointment that Mangu Local Government Area, the governor’s home base, has not experienced significant development under the current administration.
He insisted that future leadership from the area must be based on competence and proven ability rather than ethnic sentiment.
“This is not about kinship. It is about capacity and the ability to deliver,” he said.
