Babachir Lawal Demands New ADC Presidential Candidate, Replacement for Atiku

Former government of the federation (SGF) secretary Babachir Lawal has reiterated his recent remarks against African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Following criticism of comments he made regarding the former vice president, Lawal posted his opinions on Facebook on Saturday.

BACKGROUND

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) alleges that the party leadership rigged the primary elections on multiple fronts to deliberately favor the former Vice President.

Furthermore, Lawal took a direct swipe at Atiku’s electoral viability. Ultimately, he declared that the opposition leader completely lacks the political muscle required to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential contest.

‘CRITICISM SHOULD FOCUS ON ISSUES’

The former SGF claimed that instead of addressing the problems he brought up, the majority of his detractors had concentrated on disparaging him.

Defending his position, Lawal vehemently rejected accusations that his recent critiques of Atiku constitute an attack on any specific ethnic group, arguing that critics are intentionally misinterpreting his words.

The lawmaker also said that criticism of political figures shouldn’t be seen from an ethnic perspective.
LAWAL REVISITS SGF EXIT

Lawal also went over the controversy that resulted in his dismissal as SGF under Muhammadu Buhari.

He claimed that there was political motivation behind the incident. The former SGF fiercely maintained his innocence by highlighting his ultimate victory in the justice system.

He said, “During the trial, EFCC called 14 witnesses. Interestingly all of them testified to my innocence as if they were my own witnesses. Not one of them implicated me either in the contract award process or its execution”.

Lawal added that the project at the centre of the controversy involved environmental and agricultural interventions in the north-east.
