Nkem Owoh

Nkem Owoh says social-media fame cannot replace genuine talent.

Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has reacted to the growing trend of film producers casting actors based on social-media popularity rather than acting talent.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Selah Meditate Podcast, Nkem Owoh stated that he does not view social media fame as a threat to genuine talent in the industry.

He maintained that online popularity cannot replace real acting ability, insisting that talent will always remain superior.

“I don’t think social-media fame is replacing real talent. It can’t. There is no way social-media fame can replace real talent,” he said.

Reports indicate that several Nollywood actors, including Shine Rosman, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Osereme Inegbenebor, have recently raised concerns about filmmakers prioritizing looks, online influence, and physical appearance over skill in casting decisions.

However, industry stakeholders are yet to make significant public moves addressing the ongoing concerns.
