The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declined to verify widespread reports that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has picked former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.
The reports, published by several media organisations in recent days, claimed that Atiku Abubakar had chosen Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and runner-up in the ADC presidential primary, as his vice-presidential nominee.
However, when contacted by PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national secretary and spokesperson declined to confirm the reports. He also declined to provide additional information on the search for a running mate.

He said, “I don’t have that confirmation. I cannot confirm for you at this time.”
“All I can tell you is that I don’t have information. You asked me to confirm something and I have said I don’t have information in that regard.”
However, Mr. Abdullahi stated that a vice presidential candidate would eventually be announced by the party.
BACKSTORY…
Meanwhile, speculation about a possible Atiku–Amaechi ticket has intensified since the conclusion of the ADC presidential primary, which Abubakar won ahead of Rotimi Amaechi and other aspirants.
This comes amid two separate visits between the duo.
Previous report by NaijaEyes says that the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate.
The immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, confirmed the development on Saturday while also adding that Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential role.
However, the ADC at the national level has now stated that the report remains unconfirmed.
Recall that Amaechi had previuosly stated that he has no interest in becoming vice president or anybody’s running mate in the 2027 general election.
