No fewer than 46 suspected illegal immigrants have been arrested in Ogun State by troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, Idereghi Samuel Akari, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, noting that it followed credible intelligence and involved the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS).
He said the operation, which began on June 11, 2026, led to the arrest of the suspects at different locations in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and nearby communities during a coordinated security raid.
Preliminary findings showed that the individuals had allegedly been living in the state for about six months without valid immigration documents.
During questioning, the suspects claimed they were traders and workers connected to QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various products.
The arrested persons include 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. The group consists of 36 males and 10 females.
The statement added that the suspects have been transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and necessary administrative action in line with existing laws.
