The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an updated final list of candidates for the forthcoming Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election, increasing the number of contenders from four to six.
The revised list, published ahead of the June 20, 2026 poll, now includes candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), who were missing from the earlier list.
INEC’s initial publication had featured only candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
However, the updated list shows that Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmadu of the ADC and Duba Shaya Dodo of the NDC have now been added, bringing the total number of candidates to six.
The candidates cleared for the election are:
- Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmadu (ADC)
- Hallu Danladi Envu-Uza (APC)
- Maku Labaran (LP)
- Duba Shaya Dodo (NDC)
- John Paul Araneshi (NNPP)
- Emmanuel David Ombugadu (PDP)
The Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election is scheduled to hold on June 20, 2026, across the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district.

BACKSTORY…
The update by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) comes as preparations intensify ahead of the June 20, 2026 Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election.
The poll was triggered following a vacancy in the senatorial seat, prompting political parties to field candidates for the contest across the five local government areas that make up the district.
INEC had earlier released a final list of contestants featuring four major political parties, but continued administrative reviews and party submissions led to a revision of the list.
The electoral body has since included candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), bringing the total number of cleared contestants to six.
The development reflects INEC’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all eligible political parties and their candidates are properly captured in line with electoral guidelines ahead of the bye-election.
