US President Donald Trump claims that without the United States and his leadership, there would be no existence of Israel.
Trump made the remarks on Tuesday during the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, amid growing tensions between Washington and Tel Aviv over the Iran issue and ongoing efforts to preserve regional stability and peace.
Recall that on Sunday, the US and Iran said they have reached a deal to end the Middle East war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.
However, barely twenty four hours later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country would keep its troops in Lebanon despite the deal.
He said, “I want to make clear: We will remain in the security zones as long as required in order to defend our country,” adding that “the struggle has not ended”.
Following this, Israel launched another strike on Lebanon prompting Trump’s statement saying that he is angry at Netanyahu for complicating efforts.
Resuming his criticism in France, Trump said too many people have died from Israel’s mission to fight Hezbollah, adding that the conflict has gone on for “too long”.
Trump’s Statement
“You don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you’re looking for somebody, because there are a lot of people in those apartment houses, and they’re not all Hezbollah, that I can tell you,” the US president said.
“And I suggested to Israel to let Syria take care of Hezbollah because, to be honest with you, I think they’re doing a better job of doing it.
“Without us, without the United States, there would be no Israel. Without me, there would be no Israel, because no other president was willing to do what I did. I’ve had a great relationship with Bibi, but now Bibi has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon.”
