US-Iran Tensions: Trump Threatens Fresh Bombing of Iran If Peace Deal Fails

US President, Donald J. Trump has issued a fresh warning that Washington will resume military airstrikes on Iran if Tehran fails to comply with the terms of the recently announced peace deal agreement, describing the arrangement as a non-binding memorandum of understanding rather than a final deal.

Trump made the threats on Wednesday while addressing reporters alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, where discussions on the future of US-Iran relations dominated diplomatic engagements.

He also noted that the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran remains preliminary and could collapse if the Iranian government fails to meet his expectations.

When asked if the agreement is now concluded, he said, “No, it’s not final,”

“It’s a memorandum of understanding. And if I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head. If they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head.”

Speaking further, he expressed confidence that Iran would never acquire nuclear weapons. Moreover, he claimed there is a “99.99 percent chance” that it has effectively neutralised Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

BACKSTORY…

Meanwhile, this comes only few days after the United States and Iran announced that they reached a deal to end the Middle East war on all fronts including Lebanon, and to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Following this, global Oil prices continued their downward trend on Monday following the signing of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran to end hostilities in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, dropped from $87 per barrel on Sunday to about $83 per barrel on Monday, according to Oilprice.com. The decline came as markets reacted to news of the agreement announced over the weekend.
