A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), in Kuje Correctional Centre.
The presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order following the revocation of Sowore’s bail last week.
Justice Umar also adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the application adding that the defendant be kept in the facility until Wednesday.
Furthermore, the court issued the arrest warrant after the defendant failed to appear for the continuation of his trial, during which he was expected to begin presenting his defence.
Earlier, Omoyele Sowore had chosen to represent himself in court after his legal team withdrew from the case.
Sowore represented himself during the Monday session. He clarified that his legal team refused to continue appearing in the matter as a result of what they described as persistent unfair treatment and hostility from the judge.
Additionally, he explained that his lawyers became afraid to represent him, forcing him to file and move a fresh recusal application personally.
BACKSTORY…
The issue stems from a tweet Sowore made in August of 2025 describing president Tinubu as a criminal.
In a letter dated September 7, the DSS accused Sowore of making criminal and derogatory statements against the President in an X (formerly Twitter) post on August 26.
Furthermore, the agency warned that it would take all lawful measures necessary to protect national security and preserve public order if the individual fails to remove the post within the stipulated timeframe.
