Bandits believed to be ‘repentant’ terrorists on Monday morning launched fresh round of attacks in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing an unspecified number of farmers and abducting nearly 20 others
A source in Birnin Gwari, who confirmed the attack in a message sent to SaharaReporters, said the incident occurred at about 11am in Layin Danauta village.
The source claimed that the armed bandits launched a guerrilla-style attack on farmers after storming farmlands north of the settlement.
Furthermore, although the figures remain preliminary, the source claimed that the attackers kidnapped seven women and about fifteen men during the assault.
In addition, several farmers sustained injuries as locals and volunteers continued search and recovery operations late into the night.
According to sources, as of 11:30pm, six bodies had been recovered from the attack scene, while efforts to locate other victims remained in progress. Although the exact number of those killed, injured and abducted has yet to be officially confirmed, community sources fear the death toll could rise as more casualties are accounted for.
