Human rights group Amnesty International has called for a comprehensive investigation into the killing of an Islamic school teacher in Kaduna State.
In a statement, the organization reacted to the incident which reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Mararaba Jos, a community along the Kaduna–Zaria highway.
Amnesty International alleged that there are claims the victim was handed over to a mob by police officers, after which she was killed and her body set on fire.
The group urged the police authorities to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any officers were involved in the alleged handover.
It stressed that all those responsible for the killing must be identified and prosecuted, insisting that justice should be served.
The rights organisation also expressed concern over the rising cases of mob violence fueled by suspicion and unverified accusations, warning that such incidents weaken the rule of law and put innocent lives at risk.
Amnesty International further noted that the lack of accountability in previous mob-related killings has contributed to a culture of impunity, encouraging similar acts of violence.
It added that a transparent investigation and prosecution of those found culpable would help rebuild public trust in the justice system and discourage future occurrences.
