2027: Kwankwaso Says NDC Will Emerge Stronger From Crisis

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress’s (NDC) vice presidential candidate, has urged members and supporters to maintain composure and dedication in the run-up to the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that the party will overcome its ongoing legal issues.

Following a courtesy visit to Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, at his Abuja home, Kwankwaso made the pledge on Sunday via a post on his official X page.

The former Kano State governor said the meeting formed part of broader consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s unity, resilience, and strategic preparations for the next election cycle.

“Today, I paid a courtesy visit to the National Leader of our party, the NDC, His Excellency Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja,” he wrote.

“The engagement forms part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s unity, resilience and strategic readiness as we prepare for the 2027 general elections.”

Despite the legal challenges facing the party, Kwankwaso declared that the party remained steadfastly devoted to democratic values and the rule of law while expressing faith in the legal system.

He also urged Nigerians, party members, and supporters to maintain their resolve and optimism, stating that the party would overcome its current predicament.

Olusegun Obasanjo, Kwankwaso Meet in Kano

Kwankwaso’s recent visit comes just few days following his meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo in Kano state.

Emerging from the private session, sources have described the high-stakes dialogue between the two influential political figures as “constructive discussions.”

Kwankwaso’s media aide Saifullahi Hassan , disclosed this in a post on Friday, adding the meeting took place during Obasanjo’s official visit to the state.

According to Hassan, Kwankwaso arrived with a high-profile entourage that included Aminu Gwarzo, the former deputy governor of Kano State.

Backstory…

INEC

The current crisis plaguing the NDC stems from a recent court ruling ordering the Independent Electoral Commission( INEC) to deregister the party.

On Friday June 26, Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the earlier court judgment recognising the party had infringed on the rights of the Peace Movement Party because the court did not join the party in the original suit, despite its claim that it owned the logo the NDC used.

Counsel to the Peace Movement Party, C.S. Ekeocha, explained that the party approached the court after discovering that the NDC had based its registration application on a logo the Peace Movement Party had already submitted to INEC before the legal proceedings commenced.
