2027: Don’t drag Nigeria into crisis — Timi Frank warns over alleged fresh move to delist African Democratic Congress

Former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has alleged a fresh plan to remove the African Democratic Congress from the ballot ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Monday, Frank warned that any move to bar the ADC from participating in the polls could trigger serious political unrest in the country.

He claimed there were plans to use the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission to stop the ADC and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from contesting.

According to him, such a move would damage Nigeria’s democratic image and amount to a dangerous attack on opposition politics.

Frank called on Nigerians to remain alert and closely watch what he described as an orchestrated attempt by the ruling party to retain power by all means.

He also appealed to the international community, particularly the United States, to intervene and help prevent what he warned could become a major democratic crisis.

In addition, he cautioned INEC and the judiciary against becoming part of any alleged anti-democratic agenda, stressing that history would hold them accountable.

His remarks follow similar concerns earlier raised by Atiku Abubakar over an alleged plot to sideline the ADC, coming shortly after a High Court in Lokoja reportedly overturned an earlier judgment that had compelled INEC to register the party.

BACKSTORY:

The latest warning by Timi Frank follows growing tensions around the political future of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC has recently gained prominence as a possible opposition platform, especially after Atiku Abubakar and other opposition figures began aligning with the party as part of wider coalition talks to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Concerns intensified after a High Court in Lokoja reportedly set aside an earlier judgment that compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the ADC, fueling speculation of legal and political attempts to weaken the opposition before the next general election.
