‘I Might Not Be Alive in 2027 For 2027’ — Peter Obi Speak

The Nigeria Democratic Congress  presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has said that he may not be alive to contest the coming election, alleging that the government is frustrating his effort and targeting opposition figures.

The NDC chieftain made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, which media personality Chude Jideonwo posted on X on Wednesday.

Responding to a question on whether there was a possibility he might not be a candidate in 2027, Obi said, “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you.

“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive.”

Additionally, Obi clarified that he was not making direct accusations but simply describing daily experiences of obstruction.

He said, “It’s not an accusation. I know. I get frustration every day. Because you do things that you think would be normal—it is not normal anymore.

“They won’t come directly and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their hand in virtually everything”

When asked whether the administration was targeting him specifically, the former Governor of Anambra State claimed that the government was treating other opposition members unfairly as well.

“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all,” he said.

Speaking further, Peter Obi referenced a recent incident where an airport where he claimed officials locked his car despite other vehicles being parked in the same area.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate also claimed that some supporters had discouraged him from attending family events.

Backstory…

This comes barely twenty four hours after Ali Modu Sheriff, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Borno State, dismissed prospects of Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election, asserting that Northern voters will not back the former Anambra State governor.

Despite the former Labour Party candidate’s strong performance in the 2023 polls, Sheriff stated during an interview on Channels TV on Monday, July 6, that he remains unconcerned about Obi’s presidential ambitions.

Sheriff further accused Peter Obi of attempting to divide Nigeria. According to him: “Peter Obi, up to this moment, is pursuing the division of Nigeria because he believes in Biafra.

“He never condemns Biafra or IPOB, as he wants to divide Nigeria. He should come out and say if he doesn’t believe in the division of the country.
