Yilwatda Explains Visit to Kwankwaso’s Ally

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said his recent visit to Senator Rufai Hanga of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a close ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was aimed at fostering peace, unity, and development in Kano State.

Yilwatda disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday following his courtesy visit to the senator.

According to the APC chairman, the discussion centred on issues affecting Kano State and the need for political leaders to work together in the interest of the people, regardless of their party affiliations.

“Our discussions were cordial and focused on the unity, peace, stability, and future of Kano State.”

The APC national chairman stressed that political affiliations should not stand in the way of leaders working together to advance the welfare of the people.

Yilwatda further stated that Nigeria would achieve greater progress if its leaders embraced collaboration and placed national development above political rivalry.

“Nigeria’s progress is best served when we build bridges of understanding, encourage constructive dialogue, and place the welfare of citizens above partisan considerations.”

The visit comes amid reports of growing tensions between Senator Rufai Hanga and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, following a series of remarks made by the lawmaker that suggested a widening rift between the two political allies.

Hanga reportedly expressed dissatisfaction after losing the party’s governorship ticket to Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna. He also alleged that Kwankwaso had considered handing the Kano governorship ticket to his son, Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

BACKSTORY:

The visit came amid heightened political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political leaders across party lines engaging in consultations and dialogue.

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda’s meeting with Senator Rufai Hanga attracted widespread attention because Hanga is a prominent figure in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and a longtime political associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The meeting also followed reports of strained relations between Hanga and Kwankwaso after the senator made a series of remarks that sparked speculation about a rift within their political camp.

Reacting to the public interest generated by the visit, Yilwatda clarified that the meeting was not driven by partisan politics but by a shared commitment to peace, unity and the development of Kano State. He stressed that political differences should not prevent leaders from working together in the interest of the people and national progress.
