JUST IN: TCN Announces Blackout in Abuja, Lists Affected Areas

The Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN) has announced yet another a blackout in Abuja on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah confirmed the development in an official statement released on its official X handle on Saturday.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria explained that the blackout stems from scheduled maintenance work being carried out at the Kubwa 132/330kV transmission substation this Saturday.

According to TCN, the affected areas include; Ushafa, Jigo, Peyi, Pambara, Kogo, Veritas University, Bwari Dutse, Army Estate, Berger Camp, FHA, FCDA, Karatana Village, Aso Garden, Papas Ground, and adjacent neighborhoods.

The statement reads, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that a planned maintenance exercise has been scheduled at its Kubwa 132/33kV Transmission Substation on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm.

“This exercise will enable the TCN maintenance crew to carry out annual preventive maintenance on one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers (TR2) and its associated switchgear.

“As a result, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to its customers in Dutse Bupma, Ushafa, Jigo, Peyi, Pambara, Kogo, Veritas University, Bwari Dutse, Army Estate, Berger Camp, FHA, FCDA, Karatana Village, Aso Garden, Papas Ground, and its environs.”

Recall that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also previously announced a blackout in the Presidential Villa, National Assembly annex, Supreme Court, and other areas of the FCT for Saturday and Sunday.

Backstory…

Meanwhile, the most recent announcement of a blackout in Abuja is the second occurrence in just two weeks. On July 4, TCN Abuja Region, announced that it will carry out preventive maintenance on the Katampe 132/33-kilovolt (kV) Transmission Substation on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.

According to Mbah, the planned maintenance will allow TCN’s maintenance team to do preventative maintenance on the substation’s 100 Mega Volt Ampree (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), its auxiliaries, and related switchgear.

Some of the affected areas at the time included parts of Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market and. Idu-Karmo.
