30 Killed in Fresh Kaduna Community Attack

A fresh Kaduna attack has claimed at least 30 lives, including eight children, after suspected terrorists stormed Naridon Village in Kaduna State’s Kauru Ward during a fresh outbreak of violence in Southern Kaduna.

The gunmen reportedly raided the community at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire at random, torching residences, and leaving numerous residents dead or wounded.

Dogon Rana, secretary to the village head of Naridon, confirmed the incident during a phone interview with PUNCH Online on Monday.

Rana described the attack as unprecedented for the community, noting that the gunmen struck while some residents were finishing up their evening routines and others were already asleep.

He stated that 30 people, including eight children, have been confirmed dead, while four others sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

He expressed grief over the devastation of the community, noting that numerous families lost their loved ones while property worth millions of naira was destroyed.

Additionally, he referenced a family who lost 5 children in a single night. He said, “There is someone in this village who lost five children in one night. The only surviving child is critically injured and fighting for his life. This is a tragedy that has thrown the entire community into mourning,”

Rana added that his own house was among those razed by the attackers.

He urged the Federal Government, the Kaduna State Government, and security agencies to immediately deploy more security officers to the area and begin building of an access road to the community.

Backstory…

The latest attack underscores the persistent insecurity that has plagued communities in Southern Kaduna despite repeated military operations and government assurances.

Over the past year, several villages in Kauru, Kaura, Kajuru and neighbouring local government areas have suffered deadly raids by suspected bandits and other armed groups, leaving scores dead, homes razed and thousands displaced.

The recurring violence has fuelled growing concerns over the safety of rural communities and the effectiveness of ongoing security operations.
