The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has released an update on the reported fire incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, stated that no fire occurred at the terminal.
According to the statement, the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system caused the smoke.
It noted that authorities are investigating the cause of the event and that normal airport operations have resumed.
The statement said, “Further to our earlier advisory regarding the incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, wishes to provide the following update
“Preliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal. The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.
“The reason for the activation of the fire suppression system is currently being investigated. Normal operating operations have since resumed at the terminal.
“While detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident. FAAN appreciates the understanding and cooperation of passengers, airlines, airport users, and all stakeholders, and reiterates its commitment to the safety and security of all airport operations.”

Recall that in the early hours of August 2, there was palpable panic as a fire broke out at Terminal 2 of the Lagos Airport- Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)have acknowledged the development in a statement, adding that it promptly dispatched its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) to the area to contain the outbreak and keep it from spreading further.

According to the authority, emergency professionals were aggressively fighting the fire and ensuring the safety of airport passengers and facilities in the terminal area.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the agency said.
