JUST IN: X (Twitter) Ends Revenue Sharing, Launches New Creator Rewards Programme

X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter has announced that it would the usual X Creators Revenue Sharing programme in favour of a new Original Content Rewards program, which will compensate creators for producing original content on the platform.

The social media corporation revealed the changes on Friday in a post on its X Creators account, stating that the new program will reward creators who contributed original material.

It said, “Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X”

X clarified that it will stop accepting new enrolments into X Creators Revenue Sharing programme from Friday, while existing participants would continue earning until September 7, 2026.

“Starting today, we’re no longer accepting new enrollments into Revenue Sharing,” it said.

According to the company, current Revenue Sharing participants will receive three final payouts: two are scheduled for August 14 and August 28, with a third payment covering earnings accrued through September 7 expected around September 11.

X stated that existing Revenue Sharing members can apply for the new program starting September 8, provided they satisfy all eligibility requirements.

Initial payouts under the new Original Content Rewards program will begin on August 28, 2026. Existing Revenue Sharing creators who enroll in the updated scheme starting September 8 will receive their first payment on September 25.

Under this updated model, eligible creators will receive biweekly payments based on qualified impressions generated by their original content.

On the other hand, “The following are excluded from qualified impressions: impressions from the same account counted more than once per post; paid, promoted, or artificially generated impressions; and fraudulent impressions,” it said.

Eligibility requirements under the programme

To be eligible for the program, creators must be at least 18 years old, reside in an eligible country, maintain an account in good standing, and hold either a personal or business account.

Creators applying to the new programme must also maintain an active subscription to X Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business, possess at least 500 verified followers, and have accumulated a minimum of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the preceding 90 days.

Furthermore, X specified that creators must publish original content consistently to retain their eligibility status. The platform noted that qualifying original content can encompass threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, analysis, commentary, and reactions—provided they contribute substantive value to ongoing discussions.

The company also noted that creators who use content produced by others would need to add meaningful commentary, context, analysis, humour or creative transformation for such posts to qualify.

X stated that modest alterations such as cropping, filters, borders, watermarks, speed adjustments, or simple text overlays would not typically qualify as important transformations on their own.

Additionally, it stated that anything duplicated or substantially reproduced from another creator, content obtained and re-uploaded from X or another platform without the original author’s consent, automated content, disinformation, and deceptive content would be ineligible.

Violations

The platform warned that accounts violating program rules face temporary or permanent suspension, depending on the severity of the offense.

Additionally, X specified that creators bear sole responsibility for securing all necessary rights, permissions, or licenses when incorporating third-party content into their posts.

“Original content is content you personally create that reflects your own voice, perspective, expertise, or creativity,” X said.

According to the platform, the updated initiative aims to directly compensate creators who enrich the platform by contributing unique insights, fresh concepts, and engaging viewpoints to ongoing public dialogue.

“The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward the creators who start them, shape them, and move them forward,” it said.
