Osun Election: Adeleke Denies Electoral Pact With ADC

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied having any electoral agreement or political partnership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before, during or after the state’s recent governorship election.

Adeleke made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday, following claims by the ADC that it worked with the governor’s Accord Party to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the election.

Reacting to the outcome of the poll, Adeleke attributed his victory to God and the overwhelming support of the people of Osun State. He also expressed appreciation to residents for backing his re-election.

“The credit for our victory goes to God Almighty and the good people of Osun State for their overwhelming support and re-election,” he stated.

The governor also sought to clarify the nature of the political alliances that supported his campaign, stressing that the ADC was not part of the coalition that mobilised support for his re-election.

“For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s election,” Adeleke said.

Adeleke, however, praised the political allies and stakeholders who supported his campaign and worked toward his victory at the polls. He said their efforts and commitment played an important role in the outcome.

“I commend all our political partners who sacrificed, worked tirelessly, and went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. Their commitment and support were instrumental to our success.

“Now that the election is over, I remain the Governor of all Osun people, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. My commitment is to unite our people and continue working for the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” he added.

BACKSTORY:

The clarification follows claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it worked with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political structure to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the Osun governorship election.

The ADC, through its spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, reportedly claimed that it collaborated with Adeleke’s Accord Party during the election. Adeleke, however, rejected the claim, insisting that the ADC was not part of the coalition that campaigned and mobilised support for his re-election.

Adeleke attributed his victory to the support of Osun voters and thanked the political partners who he said worked tirelessly to secure the election result.

His statement is aimed at clarifying the political alliances surrounding the election and distancing his administration from claims of an electoral arrangement with the ADC.
