Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited the Port Harcourt residence of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Sunday.
The meeting marks the first direct interaction between the two politicians since Fubara publicly declared he would not seek a second term as governor.
Wike received the governor alongside Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Rivers State, and Senator Magnus Abe, who chairs the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee.
Former APC Deputy National Chairman Sam Jaja accompanied the governor to the meeting.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to solidify political reconciliation between Wike and Fubara following their prolonged political rift.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike recently confirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has agreed to rejoin the core political structure that originally swept him into office in Rivers State.
The breakdown in relations between both leaders occurred shortly after Fubara’s inauguration in 2023, triggering a political stalemate that deeply divided the state’s governance apparatus.
The rift escalated to the point where President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers, amidst impeachment attempts spearheaded by lawmakers loyal to Wike.
Following a mediated truce, Fubara aligned with the APC and integrated into Wike’s cross-party “Rainbow Coalition”.

The meeting between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi comes after more than three years of a bitter political struggle between both men.
A political truce subsequently emerged between the rival camps. But one of the most contentious parts of the arrangement was Fubara’s political future.
In May 2026, Wike said the agreement that helped stop the impeachment proceedings required Fubara to drop any plan to seek a second term.
Wike said Fubara should never have collected the APC nomination form in the first place because, according to him, the agreement already covered the governor’s decision not to pursue another term.
Since then, the Governor has formally endorsed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor for the 2027 Rivers State governorship race, while publicly aligning himself with the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition.
Furthermore, he urged his loyalists to align fully with the political movement, backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and supporting all candidates sponsored by the coalition.
