Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of conspiring against him.
Speaking at a media conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the former Rivers State governor said the two governors had failed to reciprocate his support.
Wike said he had confronted Abdulrazaq over his attitude and accused him of leading a campaign against him.
“Take for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere.
“Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” Wike said.
Wike said the Kwara governor had accused him of sponsoring candidates against his preferred choices in the state. He added that Abdulrazaq should be grateful for providing a platform for aggrieved APC bigwigs who left the party for his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than joining the anti-Bola Tinubu coalition.
Speaking further, Minister Wike also referenced a strained relationship with Uzodinma, accusing the Imo governor of refusing to support him.
“Governor Hope, he knows the support I give to him,” the minister lamented.
Despite his complaints, Wike said personal disagreements with the governors would not distract him from his goal of securing President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.
If Tinubu loses, Atiku, Obi will target me – Minister Wike
Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike has also claimed that if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure re-election in 2027, opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would target him first.
Wike has remained locked in a political dispute with Atiku since losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to him in 2022. Atiku is now the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.
Speaking about the political risks of openly supporting Tinubu, Wike said a failed re-election bid would leave him personally exposed because of his allegiance to the President.
“My concern is, I will support Mr President. If you watch what is happening today and look at it, peradventure anything happens and Mr President fails today, I will be the first politician that Atiku or Obi will hunt for his head.
“I challenge anybody. So, I won’t make that mistake of sleeping to see that the President loses the election,” Wike said.
The minister argued that due to his aggressive posture toward opposition leaders like Atiku and Obi, President Tinubu’s potential defeat in 2027 would not only dismantle his political coalition but also expose him to political retribution under a new administration.
As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the January general elections, Wike further affirmed that he would actively work to prevent Atiku from securing the presidency in 2027.
Hunger, insecurity won’t stop Nigerians from re-electing Tinubu
Additionally, Minister Wike Wike expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election despite the challenges of hunger and insecurity.
The minister acknowledged that hunger and insecurity would remain key issues in any Nigerian election. However, he urged critics to take a pragmatic rather than theoretical approach when assessing voters’ political decisions.
The former Rivers State governor recalled that Nigerians also raised concerns about food insecurity and insecurity during elections under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
