FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said Rivers State residents would choose President Bola Tinubu over former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, in the 2027 election.
Speaking on Saturday in Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government Area, Wike recalled that Amaechi backed former President Muhammadu Buhari over then-President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
Wike also claimed that the former Rivers State governor did little for the State during his tenure as Minister of Transportation.
He accused the former governor of relocating the University of Transportation to Daura, Katsina State, at the expense of his home state.
“In 2014, Amaechi defined who a brother is. Other speakers didn’t want to call his name. Well, I have the capacity to call his name all the time.
“Amaechi defined a brother as one who identifies with us in terms of problems. He said brotherhood is not blood relation. So, we are going to copy that definition for the 2027 presidential election.
“Amaechi said Jonathan never cared for us and that Buhari was our brother because he would identify with us. If that’s the case, he now wants to run for Vice President.
“When he was minister, what did he do for us? Rather, he took the transportation university to Daura in Katsina State, thinking that it would make him president. Did they make him president?
“Now, Asiwaju has identified with us. Our sons are now Vice Chancellors of the University of Port Harcourt and the newly established University of Environment, which Amaechi denied us.
“That means Tinubu is our brother, and we have adopted him as our brother. So, we are going to follow Amaechi’s definition and vote President Tinubu over him and the ADC,” Wike said.
Wike Accuses Amaechi of Plotting Election-Day Boycott
Speaking further, Wike went on to say that Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential running mate, would advise his supporters to boycott the election by 11 a.m.
Wike said the former minister of transport would call for the boycott because he could not defeat the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.
The minister spoke at a lavish reception in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
According to Wike: “On election day, before 11am, Amaechi will tell his people to boycott the election because he knows there’s no way he’ll defeat us.
“If he wins his village, Ubima, then he has won the election. That’s if he will win his own polling unit.
“No more battalions of soldiers to be with him, no more battalions of police to be with him, it’s now that we the battalion of people will come out.”

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s latest warning that he would “pay back” former Rivers State governor for supporting Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election comes amid a fresh episode in the long-running political rivalry between the two former allies.
The comment comes just as attention has been drawn to Wike’s absence from the burial of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, in Ubima, Rivers State, on Saturday.
Rather than attending the funeral, Wike was listed as the guest of honour at a civic reception held for him in Omagwa, also in Ikwerre Local Government Area, on the same day.
