Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he has nothing to hide and challenged anyone to release any official information about him, including his academic records and documents that may exist abroad.
In an interview with 90 Minutes Africa, Obi said this while responding to allegations by Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, that Nigerian presidential candidates have FBI files.
Peter Obi said he had never interacted with the FBI and was unaware of having any such files.
“I don’t know. I’ve never met the FBI,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor said he was prepared to face intense public scrutiny, arguing that anyone seeking public office must be willing to take responsibility for their actions.
He said he intended to request the release of all records in his academic file from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), including his admission records, first-year results and graduation grades.
Obi said the same principle should apply to institutions he attended, including Lagos Business School, the London School of Economics, Columbia Business School, Kellogg School of Management, Harvard Business School, Oxford, Cambridge, INSEAD and IMD.
He insisted that public office holders should be willing to allow Nigerians to examine their records.
Obi also urged other presidential candidates to embrace the same level of transparency.
He said anyone with mistakes in their past should be honest enough to explain them to Nigerians.

The renewed scrutiny of Peter Obi’s academic records comes against the backdrop of a long-running political argument over the credentials of Nigeria’s presidential candidates, which became especially intense after the disputed 2023 presidential election.
The issue became politically explosive in 2026 after Atiku Abubakar, now the ADC presidential candidate, hired Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York to pursue the release of the drug records linked to Tinuburecords.
The firm began publicly campaigning for the disclosure of documents relating to allegations surrounding Tinubu’s past in the United States and has repeatedly published updates from the court proceedings.
