Following the shocking withdrawal of Governor Fubara and Tonye Cle from the Rivers APC governorship primaries, Ogundu Chinda, 10th National Assembly lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency and kinsman of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike has emerged the party’s sole governorship candidate in Rivers State.

Recall that, Fubara, has formally withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress(APC), governorship primary election in the state.

The governor announced this shocking development in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, adding that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

Similarly, George-Kelly Alabo also stepped aside from the gubernatorial contest in APC.

Meanwhile, Tonye Cole, a former APC governorship candidate in Rivers, has also formally withdrawn from the party’s primary election in the state ahead of Thursday’s exercise.

The shocking mass withdrawal ahead of Thursday’s APC governorship primaries has cleared the coast, giving Chinda the edge to clinch the ruling party’s governorship ticket in Rivers State.

Also recall that prior to the APC governorship primary, Wike, the previous state governor, stormed Port Harcourt.

With this latest development, Fubara will not seek re-election as Rivers State governor in 2027.

This is indeed heart breaking for Rivers people as they have  continuously showed total support and loyalty to Fubara.

BACKSTORY…

While political observers and residents have pointed that this political power play is largely influenced by FCT minister and the political powers that be, it still remains unconfirmed.

Speaking during an interview with Channels TV Politics Today, Fubara’s ally Ann-kio Briggs has expressed frustration over the current situation of things amid Gov Fubara’s withdrawal from the primaries.
