Rivers State Governor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has formally withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress(APC), governorship primary election in the state.
Governor Fubara announced this shocking development in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, adding that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
According to him, although the decision was difficult, he remains committed to supporting whoever emerges as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.
The governor also appreciated his supporters for their complete loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging the disappointment many of them may feel over his decision to step aside.
In addition, Governor Fubara said that his recent silence was deliberate and motivated by what he described as the state’s higher interest.
He further noted that he had been under a lot of pressure and had to make tough decisions. He thanked President Tinubu for his encouragement and support as well as the APC for giving him a platform.
While speaking, he urged party faithful and supporters to remain united, insisting that the APC remains a collective political family committed to building a stronger future for the state.
He said, “After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries.
“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party.”
