The wait is over for thousands of Nigerian students who sat for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the National Examinations Council, as NECO has released the results of the SSCE Internal examination.
NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the release on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State. Candidates can now begin planning university admission, polytechnic or college applications and other post-secondary opportunities.
According to Channels Television, 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 eventually sat for it. Of those who wrote the examination, 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtained at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics. Another 1,162,118 candidates, or 84.70 per cent, secured five credits and above when English Language and Mathematics were not included in the benchmark.
The council also reported a decline in examination malpractice. NECO said 1,406 candidates were involved in malpractice cases in 2026, compared with 3,878 recorded in 2025, representing a 64.74 per cent reduction. The figures were reported by Voice of Nigeria.
