Tinubu’s policies cause of my mother’s death- Rotimi Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu contributed to his mother’s death.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Amaechi explained that while his mother was healthy prior to the current administration, the financial strain caused by recent policy shifts made it increasingly difficult to afford her required medications.

He criticized the administration’s removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that while the move was intended to improve the living conditions of Nigerians, it has instead worsened economic hardship across the country.

“The policies Tinubu introduced are killing people. I lost my mother because of the policies. We have lost people. President Tinubu’s policies killed my mother,” he said.

“Before Tinubu became President, my mother was healthy. Suddenly, when Tinubu came, it became difficult to buy drugs for my mother. I did the best I could in taking care of my mother,” Amaechi added.

Poor people suffering under Tinubu

Rotimi Amaechi further argued that while the majority of impoverished Nigerians continue to struggle under current economic conditions, only a select few are benefiting from the nation’s wealth.

The ADC vice presidential candidate reiterated his stance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, asserting that national conditions have steadily deteriorated under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

“The real people benefiting from this so-called independence is the rich. The poor continues to suffer, and it’s worse in Tinubu’s government,” Amaechi said.

Questioning whether even affluent citizens were truly thriving in the present economy, Amaechi maintained that financial gains remain concentrated within an exclusive group.

“I doubt that even the rich is benefiting. It just a group of persons that are just benefitting from this government,” he said.

I will withdraw as Atiku’s running mate, back Tinubu if petrol drops to N600 per litre

Additionally, he vowed to withdraw from the ticket of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, if the price of petrol drops to N600 per litre by tomorrow.

He emphasized that ordinary citizens have yet to see any tangible benefits from the administration’s policies, pointing to public transit costs and questioning whether commuter fares between Nyanya and central Abuja have seen the reductions promised by the government.

“Every day he repeats the same thing. He said by October 1, the price of transport would come down. Check the cost of transport from Nyanya to Abuja; has anything come down? Has anything changed?” he said.
