Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has vowed to defeat President Bola Tinubu across 12 strategic battleground states in the 2027 election.
The pledge was conveyed in a Saturday statement issued by Richard Ihediwa, director of strategic communications for Makinde’s campaign organization.
The statement asserted that President Tinubu’s planned state visits will do nothing to stem the rising tide of opposition against his reelection bid.
The targeted battlegrounds where Makinde is projected to unseat Tinubu include Rivers, Oyo, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa, Lagos, alongside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The campaign organization attributed the widespread resentment to the economic hardships Nigerians have experienced under Tinubu’s administration.
It asserted that the policies enacted by the President and his inner circle, compounded by political arrogance, have only served to intensify public frustration.
The group further claimed that while ordinary citizens continue to struggle with economic difficulties, the current administration has funneled trillions of naira into non-essential programs and projects.
“Mr President should know that his visit to these states, if he eventually does, will not in any way change the direction or the determination of the people to vote him out.
“We challenge President Tinubu not to have a change of mind but visit the states to face the people,” it said.
Backstory…
The latest claim from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s campaign comes as political groups begin positioning themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
On October 15, the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation criticised the APC’s emerging campaign coalition and argued that political alliances alone would not overcome public dissatisfaction over economic hardship, insecurity and governance.
