Kwankwaso Turns to TikTok, Urges Nigerians to Follow Him for Updates

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, invited Nigerians to follow his TikTok account to receive accurate information, direct updates, and exclusive content detailing his daily activities.

Posting on X on Wednesday, the NDC vice presidential candidate announced his official launch on the platform and urged followers to connect with him directly.

The new account gives Kwankwaso an additional digital channel to engage directly with supporters and the broader public.

As a short-form video platform, TikTok increasingly enables public figures to reach younger demographics, share personal updates, and build direct audience connections.

Expressing optimism for the nation’s future, Kwankwaso added, “Nigeria will be OK.”

“I am on TikTok!

“I encourage you all to follow me there for authentic information, the latest updates, and exclusive contents directly related to my daily life,” he said.

Social media has become an increasingly important tool for politicians seeking to communicate directly with voters, particularly young Nigerians, without relying entirely on traditional media outlets or campaign rallies.

The former Kano State governor has maintained a strong political following through the Kwankwasiyya movement, a political movement associated with his leadership and recognisable red-cap symbolism.

His support base, particularly in Kano and parts of northern Nigeria, has remained central to his influence in national politics.

Backstory…

Kwankwaso’s move also follows a series of political realignments ahead of the 2027 election. In March 2026, he resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), under which he contested the 2023 presidential election, and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He subsequently moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in May, where he became the running mate to Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate. The alliance brings together Obi’s political support base and Kwankwaso’s established following in northern Nigeria.
