APC: Tinubu Never Promised Nigerians Three-Year Poverty Eradication

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu made promises of poverty eradication in Nigeria within three years of taking office.

Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary and spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, stated that the president never set a rigid timeline for ending poverty during his campaign.

Speaking Tuesday on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Morka emphasized that campaign promises serve as progressive goals rather than time-bound guarantees.

“You know, the only thing you didn’t say in just what you read out was a calendar of what the president gave you was a timeline for eradicating poverty that even the wealthiest countries have not managed to eradicate in all of their years of post-independent government,” he said.

According to Morka, Tinubu never promised Nigerians poverty eradication within his first 100 days, two years, or three years in office.

“The president never told you that in the first month or 100 days of my government, or in the first two years or three years, I am going to eradicate poverty. You didn’t say that in what you just read out,” he added.

The APC spokesperson urged Nigerians to assess the administration’s anti-poverty initiatives against the backdrop of the country’s broader economic challenges.

He insisted that the president is tackling fundamental structural issues, arguing that critics cannot fairly declare the administration a failure simply because some campaign promises remain works in progress.

Backstory…

The controversy follows President Bola Tinubu’s remarks at the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on October 24, 2026, where he blamed opposition politicians for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians.

Tinubu said his administration was working to eradicate both problems, prompting criticism from opposition parties over his assessment of the country’s economic situation.
