Selected MTN customers eligible for the Federal Government’s ₦50 000 cash support relief program can verify their status and accept the financial support via the MoMo Payment Service Bank USSD code.
The USSD channel provides access to the National Emergency Relief and Stabilization Intervention, an initiative designed to deliver financial assistance to vulnerable Nigerian households.
This clarification comes amid circulating social media posts advising MTN users with pending or “NOT ELIGIBLE” statuses to send “YES” to an unverified code for guaranteed 24-hour payout processing.
However, MTN Nigeria Support has warned customers to disregard the viral claim, confirming that the instruction did not originate from the telecommunications company.
MTN Support wrote,”Please be informed that the information shared is not from MTN. Kindly disregard the message and do not click on any unverified links, share personal information, OTPs, PINs, passwords, or make any payments based on such messages.”
However, in response to the social media post, the company urged customers to refrain from clicking unverified links, sharing personal details, one-time passwords, PINs, or account credentials, or making payments based on fraudulent messages.
According to the official NERSI portal, program beneficiaries are selected using data drawn from the National Social Register and authenticated national identity records.
How MTN customers can verify their eligibility and obtain assistance
Enter the USSD code: To verify their eligibility or status, MTN users can enter 6710# from their registered phone numbers and follow the on-screen directions.
Accept the offer if chosen: Subscribers should use the USSD code or follow the instructions in the message if they receive an official notification confirming their selection.
Respond to an official pop-up: The user should follow instructions and select the relevant option to grant consent if a legitimate MoMo notice comes on the phone requesting the recipient to accept the support.
Create a MoMo account: Those who do not have a MoMo wallet can register by downloading the official MoMo NG application or by calling *671#.
Access the money: Once the ₦50,000 is credited, beneficiaries can access it through the MoMo application, USSD or a MoMo agent. They can also transfer the funds to a bank account.
Backstory…
Recall that on October 30, the Federal Government revealed plans to launch a ₦50 000 cash support programme to targeted vulnerable households.
The funds aim to cushion the financial burden imposed by rising living costs. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, announced the initiative in a statement on Friday.
Doro explained that the presidential initiative, named the National Emergency Relief and Stabilization Intervention (NERSI), seeks to provide immediate financial relief to millions of low-income Nigerians.
