Ogun Residents Cry Out Over Deadly Attacks.

Abeokuta — Residents of Iwoye-Ketu, in Ogun State’s Imeko-Afon LGA, under “The Iwoye-Ketu Development Forum,” have urgently appealed to the Nigerian government and international bodies to address the ongoing violence and killings in their community, allegedly perpetrated by suspected Fulani arsonists. The recent attacks have threatened the peace and security of the area, evoking memories of the tragic 2002 clashes between Iwoye-Ketu natives and Fulani settlers.

Community leaders, including Chairman Chief Semiu Usman-Legitan and Secretary Wale Fadipe, highlighted the surge in kidnappings and violent crimes over the past two months, blaming Fulani residents for the atrocities. The community expressed fear and frustration over the disregard for human life displayed by the attackers.

In contrast, Alhaji Abubakar Dende, Ogun State Chairman of the Myetti Allah Cattle Dealers Association, denied the involvement of local Fulani, attributing the kidnappings to foreign elements. He recounted a recent incident where a dispute between Yorubas and Fulani led to the killing of several individuals on both sides, escalating the conflict.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has since mediated peace talks between the warring groups, leading to a resolution and restoring calm to the area. The police chief emphasized the importance of maintaining peace moving forward.
